Preparing for Interviews in Healthcare Reusable Learning Object
Aaron has been working with Anne Felton (School of Health Sciences, University of Nottingham), Erica Sparkes (Careers and Employability Service, University of Nottingham) and Richard Windle (School of Health Sciences, University of Nottingham) to develop and release a reusable learning object (RLO) titled “Preparing for Interviews in Healthcare” which helps Nursing and Midwifery students improve their interview skills.
The RLO takes users on a journey from initially being offered an interview through to identifying interview question types and answering them. The resource combines audio narration with interview scenarios in which School of Health Sciences students are placed in an interview situation and asked to answer a series of questions. The learners then have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions prior to hearing the student’s responses. The students can then go on to rate the student’s responses.
The team wanted to develop an interview preparation activity planning tool which allows the learner to plan a series of activities prior to an interview through a drag and drag interface. This activity plan can be saved and later modified but can also be printed.

Aaron was incredibly impressed by the quality of the interview performances of both the nursing and midwifery students who participated in video shoot for the resource. Equally impressive was the coaching provided by Erica Sparkes to allow the students to maximise the impact of their response to the interview questions. Aaron hope’s this RLO will be of benefit to those students who will be undertaking interviews as they begin their respective careers.
The ‘Preparing for Interviews in Healthcare’ resource was released on the HELM Open platform on the 15th January 2019.
